Joseph Ejercito Estrada

"Walang tutulong sa Pilipino kundi and kapwa Pilipino..."

Joseph Estrada was born on April 19, 1937 in Tondo, Manila to Engr. Emilio Ejercito and Maria Marcelo. He was a famous movie actor and producer, the mayor of San Juan, a member of the Philippine Senate, vice president to President Ramos and was elected President of the Philippines on June 30, 1998.  He is married to Luisa Pimentel with whom he has three children - Jose, Jackie Lopez and Jude. He has a son, Joseph Victor from socialite Guia Gomez.

The Estrada presidency was accused of plunder and corruption. After his impeachment trial in the Senate was aborted, anti-Estrada protesters gathered at EDSA and rose in numbers in days that followed. On January 20, 2001, the Supreme Court declared the seat of the presidency vacant. Chief Justice Hilario Davide sworn in his vice president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as President of the Philippines. Estrada was tried and charged for plunder and perjury on April 4, 2001 before the Sandiganbayan and was convicted on September 12, 2007. He was sentenced to life-time imprisonment and detained in his Tanay, Rizal rest house but was given a presidential pardon by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on October 25, 2007. To date, "Erap" continues to help and support the masses.
